The burnished gold frames, in excellent condition, appear to be of the same age as the tiles, providing protection over the years. The vibrantly hued, incised, high gloss finish of the tiles is in like-new condition with no fading, chipping or loss of shine. Casa Gonzalez opened its doors in Seville, Spain in 1902 and quickly became one of the most prestigious tile makers in Spain. They produced a far superior tile compared to their competitors and copiers of the day, boasting more elaborate, expertly designed and carefully glazed tiles which became very popular as souvenirs for discerning world travelers. One of the two Gonzalez brothers was the architect for the elaborately tiled Spanish Steps at the Plaza de Espana in Seville in 1929, featuring Casa de Gonzalez tiles throughout the complex of plazas, buildings, bridges and gardens. Each of these tiles measures 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 3/8", each measuring 6 5/8" x 6 5/8" x 3/4" with frames. These would be suitable for any Cervantes enthusiast or lover of Classical literature and would add an elegant touch displayed on library shelves or in a wall niche in a Spanish Revival or traditional style home. less
