This Really is an Absolutely Beautiful & Important Piece of Antique American Coin Silver History. Circa 1860s. This Pie Server - Pie Knife is Done in the Classic Early Victorian "Medallion" Style. It is Signed - Has the Documented Hallmark of The Albert Coles Silver Company. During the 1860s and 1870s Silver Flatware Ornamented with Portrait Medallions Inspired by Antique Coins and Cameos Enjoyed Widespread Popularity with Virtually Every American Silversmith Producing Their Own Proprietary "Medallion" Pattern. Indeed, Medallion Patterns Graced Dinner, Desert, and Tea Tables across the United States. Albert Coles Was an Influential and Prolific Silver Manufacturer and Retailer Working in New York City from 1835 through 1877. This is a Completely Hand Made Piece of Silver with Wonderful Attention to Detail in the Features. It has a Substantial Solid Coin Silver weight of 86.00 Grams / 2.765 Troy Ounces. It is in Beautiful Original Condition with No Monograms - No Damage - No Repairs. Lightly Tarnished.
It Measures 9 1/2 inches Long x 2 3/4 inches Wide at Blade x 1 1/4 inches Tall.
The Handle is 1 inch Wide.

The Early American Silver Makers adopted the Coin Silver Standard up until around the mid 1860s at which point in time they started to adopt the Sterling Silver Standard. American Coin Silver has a 90% Silver Content, and Sterling Silver has a slightly higher 92.5% Silver Content. Pure Silver is 99.9% Pure - That is to say that it Contains No Other Alloy Metals. Some of Pieces of American Coin Silver items that were produced were marked "Pure Coin" - but it should be Noted that many of the other pieces that were produced during that period Have No Silver Mark At All. Once the Sterling Standard took hold the vast majority of the Silver Pieces that were produced by Numerous American Silver Companies were marked "Sterling". All of the Unmarked American Silver Pieces that I Sell on Chairish are Professionally Tested and are Absolutely Guaranteed to to be Solid Coin Silver.
