It could … moreThere is a tight repair captured in photos of two pieces on the right-hand side of the platter. It could be improved if desired but the plate would still be stunning on display as is. Lots of antique crazing but still a very sturdy piece. It would also be lovely to repair using the Kintsugi technique. The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with gold. Kintsugi highlights cracks and repairs as events in the life of an object, rather than allowing its service to end at the time of its damage or breakage. Making something broken even more beautiful. Fabulous antique 19th C. English Chinoiserie 16.5” Platter in the popular “Tea House” Pattern with Lusterware Finish produced by Gildea & Walker. This English Chinoiserie oversized stoneware platter is a very typical "Tea House" pattern that was used by many manufacturers in the 19th Century. The transferware pattern is handpainted with magenta & teal and is highlighted with a golden lusterware technique.
This piece is impressed with Gildea & Walker & 12/83, the date of manufacture-December 1883, with handpainted pattern number 6369. The oversized platter measures 16.5" x 13".
There is a tight repair of 2 pieces on the right-hand side that could be improved if desired but the plate would still be stunning on display as is. It would also be lovely to repair in the Kintsugi technique. The Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with gold.
