One is a graze rim chip, with the remainder of them on the undersides. Some of them are glazed over which we assume are manufacturing flaws. Very little obvious color / gold gilt loss. Four pieces were found with spot crazing. No cracks nor staining. There are two different backstamps (see below for more info on why). The only discernible difference between in comparing the two backstamps was on the saucers (picture 10). They are about 1/8" different in size, the indents on the face are not the same size, and the undersides are distinctly different. less

About the potteries and Clarice Cliff:
Both the A. J. Wilkinson Ltd, Newport Pottery and Shorter & Son Ltd., (Burslem England) factories were owned by the Shorter family. This is why there are two different backstamps.
Working for the Shorter family decorating traditional white ware, Cliff created Bizarre Ware in the 1920s. In 1930 she was made Art Director, and worked until retirement in the 1960s. Thus, one can presume it was under Cliff's art direction that the Stafford pattern was produced.
