These settees are a fine example of the 18th century transition between the rococo and Louis XVI or neoclassical styles. Neoclassical elements include tapered square legs topped with a rosette and simple, moulded backs with symmetrically placed and finely carved bows and ribbons. Vestiges of the rococo era are represented by the scalloped seat apron and the slightly bowed arm supports which end in elegant gilded scrolls.
The rounded padded backs and closed sides are above a loose down cushion. The "as found" upholstery is in good to very good condition. less
