This Mid-Century carpet runner from Morocco harmonizes disparate elements, brings soothing serenity with its sumptuously shaggy pile and simplistic pattern. This is a wonderful example of a Moroccan rug, woven with a clean and simple, yet sophisticated composition. The off white, ivory background is natural sheep's wool and contrasts beautifully with the soft and greige (grey and beige) lines. Favored by interior designers, decorators and savvy homeowners for their minimalist color and design, these Moroccan rugs add warmth and texture to modern and contemporary spaces. In the 1930's Le Corbusier, Alvar Alto, Charles and Ray Eames started incorporating the plush and soft Moroccan rugs into interior spaces as a counterbalance to their sleekly designed leather and chrome furniture. These plush Moroccan rugs carpets were used as protection from the cold as floor and sleeping rugs; however, they have found a place in many homes today. The mid to late twentieth century has brought about a renewed appreciation for mid-century modernism. Whether we lay rugs on our floors or hang them on walls, these story-filled pieces of art become talismans for our everyday lives. It is this combination of minimalist utility and magic symbolism that gives the tribal carpets their unique appeal.
