Description: Chinese porcelain Kuan Yin bowl, with a white glazed exterior and inset base. The blue glazed, wide band below the … more Chinese porcelain Kuan Yin bowl, with a white glazed exterior and inset base. The blue glazed, wide band below the interior lip is decorated eighteen, ornate, finely drawn, White Tara medallions with red flame mandorlas amid alternating polychrome clouds. Each White Tara is sitting in the lotus pose and has the crown of Amitabha and a colored halo. The inner base of the bowl has a finely drawn Kuan Yin in a lotus pose, her her hands in bhairava mudra. She sits on a lotus throne and has the urna, the ushnisha, long earlobes and descending curling braids. She wears lower garments in red, blue and black silks and has bracelets on her wrists, arms and ankles, an ornate necklace with a sky blue sash, and an Amitayus Buddha crown with leafy peonies. Her ornate mandorla is surrounded by peonies and artemisia leaves, and her ornate halo encloses the night sky. Gold highlights are used throughout.

The exterior side of the bowl has five auspicious Islamic characters. A blue, six character, Yongzheng reign mark within double blue circles is glazed to the center of the inset base. The finely carved, traditional, Chinese, hongmu plate stand is included. Circa early 20th century, no later than mid century.
