Wagner, (1925), oil painting, of a city neighborhood scene of either Boston, Mass. , or Rochester, NY. where the artist attended university. As is evident this scene depicts walk-ups, detached homes, and at the background, an old Brick Plaza, and neighborhood, in the Spring, with females walking along a sidewalk, adjacent to the street, or standing. He paints in a Post Impressionist style, primary on location, (plein air style), with a conglomerate of spring like coloring. He is notable for having an adeptness to light and color, with a mastery of the brush. Artist signature, front lower right hand corner. Wagner is best known for his maritime harbor scenes, and landscape or scenic city scape themes. Wagner studied at the Art Students League of NY., and studied with Well-Known Painter, Jack Callahan ( 1911 to 1983 ). He was a former member of the Portrait Club of NY, and a former member of The Pastel Society of America, hence his adept color sense, which lends itself to the pastels, a throwback to the old impressionist affiliation(s) and tendencies. He is painter and Artist who won an N.C. Wyeth Painting Award in NYC. Artist is an R.I.T., / Rochester Institute of Technology, graduate. Painting is framed in wood with a linen matte surround, with wood pencil trim. Dimensions in main listing is for unframed image size. Framed size, 29" W x 2" D x 25" H . In excellent condition.
