This is the very unique and hard to find Judd dogwood flowers doorstop. The unusually long handle makes it easier to lift and move this heavier than average doorstop. Given its size, it would equally make a beautiful wall accent.
Judd doorstops are unique in that they usually have a tan or green primer on their doorstops and bookends which were meant to prevent rust. The brown or green coatings were painted all over the doorstop before the painted colors were applied. Since the painted colors on the frontside covered the brown/green overcoat, only visible the brown/green color was visible on the back.
The H.L. Judd Company Incorporated (Judd) was incorporated in 1833 but underwent numerous name changes and locations – New Haven, Connecticut; Wallingford, Connecticut; Brooklyn, NY; and back to Wallingford to New Britain, Connecticut. In 1886 the company became known as The Judd Manufacturing Company and began casting decorative cast iron items such as doorstops, bookends, doorknockers, etc in the early 1910s. The Company was sold in 1954 to the Stanley Works Company. less
