Chinese Shiwan Yao Ocean Carp Dragon statue. A deft and freely carved, polychrome, stoneware figure of an ocean carp turning into a dragon atop foamy ocean waves. Extravagant, chimerical details in various, colored glazes on the dragon's head, and on the body, fins and tail of the ocean carp. Three maker's marks are impressed inside the hollow, unglazed base. The finely carved, traditional, Chinese, hongmu, circular stand is included. Circa R.O.C. period, no later than mid century.
