A hand painted spray of apricot and yellow flowers, a beaded copper rim and sweet clover closure – all in marvelous detail given the diminutive size of this porcelain box. Signed by the artist, Mc, and with additional flourishes inside.

Brigid Berlin was a dear friend of Andy Warhol who nicknamed Brigid “The Duchess” – it is said that they spoke on the telephone every morning at 9:00 from 1964 until his untimely death in 1987. Brigid had an endearing style that was a cross between her Fifth Avenue upbringing and the downtown art world.
A meticulous craftsperson, Brigid Berlin loved needlepoint and decoupage. As an artist in her own right, she mastered the polaroid camera and impromptu cassette tape recordings – with subjects from Lou Reed, Roy Lichtenstein, Dennis Hopper, John Lennon, and Warhol himself. Her photographs were published in 2015 by Reel Art Press in “Brigid Berlin: Polaroids,” and Atlantic Records released her recording “The Velvet Underground, Live at Max’s Kansas City” in 1972.
Brigid was a collector. Her apartment was filled with bespoke pieces of needlepoint, decoupage, silver, and trinkets that portrayed both her affection for European antiques and her whimsical flair. Her New York City apartment was featured in the December/January 2000 issue of Elle Décor.
