This embroidered vintage toran banner from Gujarat, India is asymmetrical with a flag tab on one end making it the perfect textile for a door or window. This bohemian wall hanging features a hand stitched repeating geometric pattern with circular mirrors throughout, which suggests it's maker is of the Banjara tribe. The bordering triangle design is specific to the Gujarat region.
Earthy, muted embroidery colors include forest green, mustard, indigo and a brighter, more jewel-tone plum. Appears to be all hand-stitched.
This textile was one of several hand-sourced in India directly from antique merchants. They're unique patina, wear and imperfections carry a glimpse into the culture and regions they resided in for decades prior, the passing of time, and the dedication, labor, and skill of their makers.
