Stunning vintage Scandinavian Modern Dutch midcentury sofa attributed to Doublet Sofa by Rob Parry for Gelderland. It is made in Holland and comprised of a rosewood frame & stretcher with chartreuse green brushed chenille fabric. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. Fabric has been professionally cleaned. Please see photos and zoom in for details. Lean, Mean, (not really mean, like… awesome mean!) and Chartreuse Green!!! This is a GORGEOUS Scandinavian Modern low-profile sofa, bench, or settee attributed to the Doublet Sofa by Rob Parry for Gelderland (The Netherlands.) It is made in Holland, and it is comprised of a fabulous rosewood frame with straight, tapered legs and stretcher, and it wears a lovely low nap brushed chenille chartreuse green fabric! IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!! It has a low angled back creating superb comfort and quintessential Scandinavian Modern beauty. It will be absolutely stunning in your Danish style living or family room or flanking the fireplace in the den. It will also blend in beautifully with your contemporary or mid-century modern décor. It was also designed to double as a sofa sleeper for those unexpected overnight guests! Plus, it has a sleek, simple, timeless design sure to be in style for years to come!
Rob Parry studied at the Royal Academy of Art where his most important teachers were Cor Alons, Paul Schuitema, and Gerrit Rietveld, whom he would eventually work for. He started his own firm with his partner Emile Truijen in 1950 and developed countless successful designs. Parry designed many pieces of furniture for clients such as Gelderland Design and others. Until 1995 he designed interiors, furniture, stands, exhibitions, jewelry, lettering, and toys. In addition, he worked for thirty years as a lecturer in architectural design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. In his designs, Rob Parry experimented with new materials and techniques. Designs by Rob Parry can be found in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
