A most impressive pair of Italian parquetry inlaid mahogany lift-top work tables (side table - end table - bedside nightstand) with warm, nicely aged patina. circa 1920s/1930s
What we love most about these tables is the elegant, sophisticated, and luxurious design created by blending traditional Neo-classical stye with a modern Biedermeier Art Deco taste.
Born in the Val Badia region, Trentino - South Tyrol (Alto Adige) far Northern Italy, near the Austria border.
Exquisitely hand-crafted by skilled local artisans, where over the course of the centuries, crafts have represented an important means of living. Passed down from one generation to the next, these trades were born out of necessity, but slowly became a passion which can easily be admired when viewing their strikingly beautiful products.
Val Badia, Val Gardena, and Val di Faslsa have been active centers of woodworking since the Renaissance, the skilled and astute artisans of those areas, pulling from centuries of cultural experience, the artistic heritage of neighboring European countries inspirations and decorative techniques for their original creations and with creative planning produced distinctive pieces of furniture full of personality, timeless elegance, rustic warmth and rich artistic depth.
Crafted after late 18th / early 19th century Neoclassical thread tables, in period Art Deco taste, the exceptionally executed early 20th century antique reproduction features a rectangular hinged flip-top lid with chessboard - checkers game board inlay framed by delicate cross-banded border, lifting open to reveal an elaborately divided interior. Affixed with elegant diminutive gilt brass hardware, the large removeable tray-like solid wood drawer is fitted with numerous compartments of various size and shape, and adorned with two small drawers. While a slightly concealed side drawer provides plenty of additional storage. Please note, the cabinets are not mirrored, with the side drawer on both cabinets located in the same place and opening the same direction.
A conforming case with canted corners displays the stunning diamond cube marquetry on all sides, allowing it to be placed anywhere in the room.
Standing on strongly curved squared saber supports joined by central cross-stretcher, rising on stylized X shaped mahogany base, terminating on sturdy bun disc feet.
