On the top right, piece reads “I AINT GONNA STUDY WAR NO MORE”, a famous excerpt from the folkloric African-American spiritual song “Down by the Riverside”. The song dates back to before the American Civil War and has been used as a message to protest war and promote peace. Original drawing looks to be cut out and adhered to more substantial backing, where some of the writing was added. Signed lower right Bailey and scrawled in the corner is “Kempfield Germany 1919, 90th Division, A.E.F.”. Drawing matted on dark gray mat, with wood frame under glass. Measures overall 21.75in x 15in, 18in x 12in image only. Good vintage condition, drawing and backing have several creases, pin holes, light stanins, and wear but overall displays well. See less
