This " Pop Art Portraits " rare vintage first edition collector's British exhibition art book is a very special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with lime green covered boards, hot pink interior end paper pages, and dust jacket is published by Yale University press, New Haven Connecticut. Printed in Italy in 2007 to accompany the exhibition " Pop Art Portraits " at The National Portrait Gallery, London and The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart Museum Germany. Authored by Paul Moorehouse with an essay by Dominic Sandbrook.
" Pop Art Portraits " offers a new look at Pop Art, bringing together key works by leading artists from both sides of The Atlantic and examining the role of portraiture within the movement. Blurring the boundaries between high and low culture, artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Hamilton, and Peter Blake elevated portraiture to a new position.
Curator of 20th Century portraits at The National Portrait Gallery, London author Paul Moorehouse explores Pop Art's innovative engagement with portraiture from the early 1950's to its maturity in the 1960's, looking at these artists' fascination with depicting the famous; the use of images taken from advertising, Pop music, film, and the press; and differences in American and British attitudes toward the Pop aesthetic.
Presenting the full range of subject matter employed by Pop artists, this extensively illustrated book demonstrates how Pop Art shattered the conventions of portraiture, creating works of technical virtuosity, originality, and enduring fascination.
The rare out of print 1st edition collector's hardcover exhibition art book measures 9" W X 11 1/4" H X 3/4" D, with 192 pages. It features 81 color and 69 black & white illustrations.
It is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age and light signs of handling. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
