This " Wayne Thiebaud : A Retrospective " rare first edition collector's lithograph print large hardcover Pop Art exhibition book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with tan linen covered boards, gold tone foil embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Acquavella Galleries New York City, distributed by Rizzoli International Publications Inc. New York. Printed in The United States in 2012 by Phoenix Lithographing, Philadelphia Pennsylvania in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition. Book design by HVADesign NY., authored by curator John Wilderding, with an essay contributed by Peter Karmel, and foreword by William R. Acquavella.
Wayne Thiebaud ( 1920 - 2021 ) is an American painter widely known for his luscious handling of paint, and brilliant colorful palette of works depicting commonplace objects that combined sensuousness, nostalgia and a hint of melancholy. Thiebaud is associated with The Pop Art Movement because of his interest in objects of mass culture. Although his early works, executed during the 1950's and 1960's predate the works of classic Pop artist. He uses heavy pigment and exaggerated colors to depict his subjects, and the well defined shadows characteristic of advertisements are almost always included in his work. Art works by Thiebaud are included in the collections of many of the most prestigious museums.
This retrospective volume is a definitive book on the seminal American Pop artist. Published on the occasion of a major survey exhibition of one of the most original and accomplished artists of our time. The large format book is a retrospective of his work from the 1950's through the time of the exhibition, with numerous works coming from the artist's collection. Like many artists, Thiebaud had held onto some of the best examples of his work from every period. With more than 100 illustrations, this book documents and reveals the painter to be preoccupied with a larger slice of American life.
