Lurex was an amazing mid-century advancement in fabric technology which made it possible for the first time to interweave metallic threads with more traditional fibers to create a fabric that caught the light. The combination here of subtly shimmering off-white and gold accented with a bit of bling in the gold banding is really stunning!

These rare vintage heirloom napkins in exceptional condition seem to especially 'shine' when the lights are low and candle light can catch the metallic shimmer in the napkins. They can be used all year long, whether for formal and/or special occasions or 'dressed down' for lower key ones.

Each napkin measures approximately 16.5 inches square and each of the two full-length gold stripes is 1-1/2 inches wide. The fabric has a substantial weight ('hand-feel') and edges have small, tidy hems. There are no tags identifying the brand, content of the fabric bled, or the place of origin. Dated from the early 1950's to early 1960's and presumed to have been made in the U.S.although this is not known for sure.
