Given that it’s … more This is a fantastic original vintage modern sculpture dated 1940 of a seated woman playing a guitar. Given that it’s a hand-built terracotta solid clay sculpture, this is likely a unique work (and not from an edition of multiples). It's executed in the style of Jacques Lipchitz (with some similarity to the work of Ossip Zadkine). Lipchitz was fond of guitar players in his cubist sculptures and frequently used incised lines on those figures (as in this sculpture). We’ve not been able to attribute this piece to a specific artist but believe it to be American. It was sourced from the same collection as an early set of Edwin and Mary Scheier studio pottery cups. It’s a great example of mid century modern American art and a wonderful addition to any mid century collection.
