At the height of his career (late 1970s), Halsey was creating serigraphs and acrylic paintings that according to him were his endeavor to “visualize an ideal”. The pieces represent the Trinity and often involve “emanating light in ordered structures, suspended in deep space,” an attempt to point to cosmic order through mathematics. Unlike many artists, Halsey was totally involved with the print making process from mixing his own inks, to cutting all stencils and often physically printing many of his own editions.
Halsey, Brian: 1942 (USA)
Brian Halsey was born in Kendallville Indiana in 1942. He studied art at the Chicago Art Institute, and Michigan State University where he graduated magna cum laude. He holds an M.A. degree in the Creative Arts.
Halsey is the recipient of many awards and distinctions including recognition from: Society of American Graphics Artists, National Academy of Design, the Metropolitan Museum and Art Center in New York, and has enjoyed exhibitions including one man shows at National Academy of Design, N.Y.; Pratt Graphic Center, N.Y.; Metropolitan Museum and Art Center; and other venues. His work is collected in public and private corporations and museums including:National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; Brooklyn Museum of Art; Denver Art Museum; Detroit Institute of Arts; Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco; Grunwald Center for Graphic Arts, University of California; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Minneapolis Institute of Arts; Baltimore Museum of Art; Phoenix Art Museum; Indianapolis Museum of Art, San Antonio, TX, Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C.; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y.; and National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto, Japan. less
