Federalist ironstone was a popular collection of tableware made in Japan during the 1960s and 1970s for Sears Roebuck & Company. It came in three colors - white, yellow and the Mayhill color combination of bright white decorated with a cobalt blue underglaze carnation pattern. Thanks to its adaptable and attractive design of scalloped edges and simple embossed lines, it easily mixes and matches with a variety of vintage and modern-day tableware, proving that classic style always has a place at the table no matter what the time period. This gorgeous set is crafted from ironstone china, which is a glaze-covered earthenware first patented by Charles James Mason of Staffordshire, England in 1813. The set consists of the following:
Coffee Pot with Lid: 9” width from tip of spout to edge of handle; 9½” x 5½” H/D; height with lid off is just under 8”; weight 1 lb. 12 oz.
Sugar Bowl with Lid: 7” width from handle-to-handle; 5¾” x 3¾” H/D; height with lid off 3¾”; weight 15 oz.
Creamer: 5½” width from tip of spout to edge of handle; 4” x 4” H/D; weight 9 oz.
In excellent condition for a set that is close to 60 years old. Minimal underglaze crazing on the lids and parts of the coffee pot (see closeup photos) that does not impact the set’s beauty or utility. It’s the perfect set for someone who may already have a Mayhill set and is missing the coffee service or for a collector of mid-century ironstone serveware.
