Description: Five panel Qing dynasty screen, each panel of which features several lacquered wooden tiles decorated with imagery either in hardstone … more Five panel Qing dynasty screen, each panel of which features several lacquered wooden tiles decorated with imagery either in hardstone or carved wood relief. Center panel has four hardstone decorated wooden tiles, other panels each have four; hardstone decorations depict children playing against a dark, painted background. Lacquered relief tiles depict court scenes, floral motifs, and/or images of beasts such as Qilin or guardian lions ("foo dogs"). Lacquer is predominantly black and red and is embellished with gilt accents and floral patterns around the edge of each panel. Each panel is finished with at least one open-work floral design. Dimensions are as follows:
