Small chairs and stools, for me, have always been somewhat of an accessory piece around our home; you can never have too many. A good one fits into any space! Small or large, in and out of doors, you can move it around from room-to-room, space-to-space, to meet the need of the moment, whether it been seating or décor. I acquired graceful cutie from a private owner who had recently had the seat reupholstered with the gorgeous needlepoint pattern you see in the photos. Petite in stature, it’s the perfect accent chair for a bedroom or small entryway or ideally sized for a large closet’s dressing area. Classical architecture pediment -style cresting rail sits atop a lyre-shaped back that has two whimsical brass rosette medallions in the center. The stiles are accented with three brass bows on each side. The seat rests on reeded tapered front legs encased in brass sabots with brass pins that are tapped into the wood and accented by whimsical rosette medallions to the left and the right of the apron; rear saber legs are slightly splayed and are sleek and smooth. It measures 35” x 15½” x 16” H/W/D; seat exterior width 17”; seat interior width 12½”; seat depth 15½”; back 18½” x 13” H/W; seat to floor distance 18”; weight approximately 10 lbs.; crafted from what we believe to be birch hard wood with a natural amber lacquer finish; brass accents; textile needlepoint seat. We believe this cutie was made sometime in the 1930s. In excellent structural condition with age-appropriate wear for its age. Of note, there is a small triangular hairline crack on the lower left back side of the lyre back (see photo 4) that is mostly indiscernible and does not affect the beauty or utility of the chair. Stately petite neoclassical cutie, with a bit of whimsy, looking for a new home, yours perhaps?
