This Sol LeWitt rare vintage 1984 lithograph print custom framed " Olympian Gestures " Modernist exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print poster is published by The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, printed in 1984 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " Olympian Gestures " exhibition. It features a Modernist artwork image adapted from LeWitt's " Nine geometric Figures in Black and White and Color " 1984, courtesy Rhona Hoffman Gallery Chicago, poster design by Sol LeWitt.
Solomon " Sol " LeWitt ( 1928 - 2007 ) was an American artist of a Russian Jewish background, linked to various movements, including Conceptual Art and Minimalism. LeWitt came to fame in the late 1960's with his Wall Drawings and " Structures " but was prolific in a wide range of mediums including drawing, printmaking, photography, painting, installation, and artist's books. Artworks by LeWitt have been the subject of hundreds of solo exhibitions in many of the most prestigious museums and galleries around the world since 1965.
The exhibition was organized by Maurice Tuchman, senior curator of Twentieth Century Art in conjunction with the events of The 23rd Olympiad Games in Los Angeles in 1984.
The eight monumental works of Contemporary Art in the exhibition were unified by two factors : the internationally recognized stature of their makers and the individual artist's attempt to synthesize their main stylistic and thematic ideas to a single summary of work. Ron Davis, Jim Dine, Nancy Graves, David Hockney, Sol LeWitt, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, and Frank Stella had each produced a body of work that has had a major influence on their generation.
In the paintings and sculptures represented in the exhibition, each artist's explorations and contributions are summed up in one grand " Olympian Gesture ". Sol LeWitt was commissioned by the museum to create the soaring three-story, none panel paintings " Nine Geometric Figures in Black and White and Color " ( 1984 ), that looms in The Ahmanson Gallery atrium. LeWitt designed this original poster to commemorate the exhibition adapting the monumental landmark artwork.
The rare out of print framed Modernist exhibition poster print measures 25 1/4" W X 25 1/4" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern matte brushed finish dark charcoal metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age and very light signs of handling in the margin border areas. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
