Valuable and refined lamp with a stylized mushroom shape in perfect Space Age style and opaline glass with colorful geometric decorations present on both front and back; the lamp consists of a heavy black Marquinia marble base on top of which are placed two opaline glass shapes interlocked with each other; the two shapes were blown in one piece without joints, then shaped with skill by master glassmakers in a Murano furnace that produced for its own account and for the famous Carlo Moretti Company. The Glass Masters created it between 1970 and 1973. The most difficult and special operation was to leave the opaline white on the whole lamp and make the outside decoration of other colors; some colored oxides (in this case, iron oxide and a mixture of sulfur and cadmium) were applied when the opalescent white lamp sketches had already come out of the kiln, at the precise moment when the oxides began to melt and amalgamate with the white, the craftsman began the blowing and shaping of the shapes, quickly and rapidly, so that the color of the decoration would only spread over the surface of the object without penetrating, as if they were brushstrokes, then put the molds back in the oven for a very short time and then proceeded to fast-cool; an operation that not everyone is able to do, in fact, it is delegated only to the Master Glassmakers. The lamp has a single point of light located on a metal plate inside the lower part, the one in the shape of a bulb, but when it is turned on, the light spreads evenly and softly over the entire body of the lamp. Carlo Moretti founded the company with his brother Giovanni in 1958 in Murano. It soon became one of the most prestigious companies in the industry materializing the infinite forms of glass into refined design objects. Carlo and Giovanni Moretti, with the work of skilled craftsmen, ahead of their time, always innovated and began by contaminating glass with the power of color and innovative techniques. However, the making of this lamp, confirms to us that the Venetian aptitude, celebrated over the centuries, for glassmaking is an alchemical combination of the material worked out by artisan intelligence with happy artistic intuitions; since ancient times, Venetian artisans have been protecting and handing down the Art of Glass, always giving us valuable and unique works of art that fascinate us with their beauty. A special type of marble was used for the base of the lamp: Nero Marquinia, high-quality, fine-grained stone material with a deep black color, quarried from the region of Markina, Basque Country in northern Spain, is one of the most famous and appreciated natural stones in the world; Marquinia is widely used for fine ornamental work. The lamp is in excellent condition. What may appear to be small defects inside or outside the glass (bubbles, lumps, streaks, etc)are instead evidence of craftsmanship and not the result of modern molding operations. Measures diameter cm.16, height cm.32. The electrical system is working but the wiring is European, voltage compatibility in other states should always be checked by an electrician before use. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects. less
