Own a stylish piece of American history! Wonderful early 19th century American red earthenware pottery preserve jar with a dark brown glaze. This artisan made piece is both collectible and on trend with a rustic, wabi sabi vibe. Use it for utensil storage (wooden spoons, etc.) or as a fantastic vase or as anything you like.
This cylindrical form with straight but slightly convex sides was typical of the pottery style in Alexandria, Virginia; Morgantown, West Virginia, and Philadelphia from 1800-1850. (See the references available on the internet below.) This is jar was discovered in the American South.
Condition is good with a chip at the rim (2nd photo) and some edge wear at the base and rim -- to be expected on a storage piece of this age.
