We were offered to take a look at a collection of antique picture frames and mirrors found in the attic of an old farmhouse on the coast of Maine that was to undergo restoration. We ended up taking the whole lot because several were in very good shape and others had potential. Most all are from the middle to late 19th century and a few of the frames still retained hand drawn portraits. All pieces were inspected for any damage and in some cases nails were hammered back in and touch-up paint was applied where needed.
After being somewhat restored this piece is in very nice condition. The wood frame and back are in excellent overall shape with no damage, water or otherwise to be found and the two glass pieces look very good for the age. The bigger piece has some light vertical streaks and a tiny dot that are pointed out, and the bottom is good. It was next to impossible to get pictures of this. The other marks are reflections of clouds. When we acquired this mirror it was (badly) painted a baby blue that went onto the glass and completely covered the brass medallions. It was taken apart and the paint was removed from the glass. The brass pieces were removed and cleaned up and the frame received white paint. There was going to be another coat applied but it ended up white with just the barest hint of light blue around the edges, kind of like an arctic white color. This looked so nice that we stopped there. Please see the pictures for further details.
