This rare rich red lacquer box is hand decorated with fine sgraffito work, the top portrays the eternal fight between a five clawed Imperial dragon and blue phoenix, whilst the sides have floral, leaf & scroll designs with a repeating black symbol for longlife amongst a profusion of the lotus flowers. Would have been used for presentation of treats/goods possibly to newly weds in times gone by.

Condition is excellent for this age and type of piece.
A remarkably well-preserved example from this period that is of a size rarely found.
Great centre piece for a table, console or dresser.
Some very minor loss at edges.
