It’s original purpose is uncertain, maybe it was used on a ship—possibly the pockets were intended to hold stick matches and the hooks were for keys, but the dolphin with open mouth and curved tail is an impressive figure in its own right. The walnut plaque has wear that one would expect to see. The brass pockets have tarnish that could be polished off if desired. The dolphin has a warm mellow patina that should be left untouched. A formidable piece of art in its own right that can go anywhere. See less
