This " Andy Warhol Portraits " rare first edition landmark volume collector's large hardcover Pop Art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with laminated cover boards is published by Phaidon Press Limited in 2007. It features an expansive monograph survey of the portrait artworks of the Pop Art master Andy Warhol.
Andy Warhol ( 1928 - 1987 ) is one of the singularly most well known Contemporary artists of all time. His imagery is recognized worldwide. His infamous life, artworks, and creative endeavors are like no other artist. He is recognized as the very first artist to use common everyday objects and view them in a completely different way while paying homage to their role in our society. Glorifying the common as the beautiful. His technique utilizing a silkscreen method combined with hand finishing in a signature palette of vibrant color hues make the work stand on its own and loved by millions.
Celebrated in the 1960's for his Pop Art paintings of iconic Campbell's Soup Cans, Warhol found equal renown with his portraiture work. Here in glorious color, are Andy's remarkable interpretations of his friends, artists, collectors, art dealers, celebrities, musicians, politicians, and beautiful people. Placed in the context of traditional portrait painting translating the cultural medium of photography into the realm of art. Warhol is a celebrity among celebrities, the ideal court painter to the international aristocracy of an era.
This landmark volume features more than 300 portraits made from the early 1960's until the artist's death in 1987. It is the most impressive book to provide a comprehensive view of this important body of work, including the well known Twentieth Century icons, as well as many paintings largely unknown even to avid Warhol followers. Accompanied with contextualizing essays by longtime collaborator gallery owner Tony Shafrazi and art critics Carter Ratcliff and Robert Rosenblum, Andy Warhol Portraits lends insight into one of the most prolific aspects of Warhol's endlessly fascinating career.
The rare out of print 1st edition landmark volume large format hardcover Pop Art book measures 10 1/4" W X 11 3/4" H X 1 1/2" D, with 320 pages.
It is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and light wear to the covers. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
