This " Josef Albers : Werke Auf Papier " rare vintage 1998 first edition lithograph print bauhaus Museum exhibition hardcover Modernist art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with dust jacket is published by Kunstmuseum Bonn, Wienard Verlag, printed in Germany in 1998 on the occasion of the " Werke Auf Papier " ( Works on Paper ) exhibition at The Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau Museum. It features a monograph survey of the artworks of Josef Albers, with accompanied German language text.
Josef Albers ( 1888 - 1976 ) was a German born artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and The United States formed the basis of Modern Art education programs of The 20th Century. Albers was a student at The Bauhaus in 1920, later being invited by the founder Walter Gropius to become an educator at the school. There his students included established artists Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
In the 1930's Albers emigrated to The United States where he would become the head of the new art school Black Mountain College, and later in the 1950's he became the head of the department of design at Yale University. His students in American included Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Richard Anuszkiewicz, and Eva Hesse among others.
Accomplished as a designer, photographer, typographer, printmaker, and poet, Albers is best remembered for his work as an Abstract painter and an invaluable contributor as an art theorist of color theory. He is considered to be one of the most influential visual artists of The Twentieth Century. Artworks by Albers are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
