This Paul Cezanne rare vintage 1996 first edition Postimpressionist landmark volume large hardcover art exhibition book is a very special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with cerulean royal blue linen covered boards, gold tone foil embossed spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Harry N. Abrams Inc. Publishers New York, printed in France in 1996. It features an expansive survey of the Postimpressionist artworks of the artist Paul Cezanne.
Paul Cezanne ( 1839 - 1906 ) was a French artist and Postimpressionist painter who laid the foundations of transition from 19th Century conception of artistic endeavor to a new and radically different world of art in The Twentieth Century. Cezanne is said to have formed the bridge between late 19th Century Impressionism and The Early 20th Century new line of artistic inquiry. Both Matisse and Picasso are said to have remarked that Cezanne " Is the father of us all ".
This landmark volume was published on the centenary of the artist's first solo exhibition in Paris. This book contains more than 240 color plates of Cezanne, illuminated by thoughtful commentaries by an array of international scholars. Many black and white illustrations of paintings, drawings, watercolors and sketchbook pages represent all aspects of his oeuvre. It includes catalogue entries on nearly 230 artworks all reproduced in color accompanied by informative commentaries, further insights provided with illustrations of almost another 300 works.
This volume's comprehensive review of the critical response evoked by Cezanne's work, both during and after his lifetime is unprecedented in the literature on the artist. Also included are a fully documented, illustrated chronology and an annotated glossary of the collectors who acquired the work of The Nineteenth Century master.
Published to accompany the Cezanne Retrospective Exhibition at The Galeries National Du Grand Palais, Paris, The Tate Gallery London, and The Philadelphia Museum of Art. This is an award winning Best Museum Catalogue, as named by The International Association of Art Critics.
