Clearly Art Nouveau-influenced, with its biomorphic/vegetal lines, this lamp will be entirely comfortable on your Ruhlmann or Dominique Art Deco rosewood desk -- unless you want to keep the scene entirely "pure" and install it on your Majorelle desk. It stands a bit more than a foot high, and the plate under the base is configured in such a way as to make it possible to use the lamp as a wall sconce (this is not a particularly complicated matter -- there's a hole in the base to slip over a screw or a nail protruding from the wall as the photo attests). I’m not sure who might want to do that, but isn’t it swell to have the option? The lamp is made of solid brass and the chrome plating, which seems to be original, is in close to mint condition; there's a heavy metal weight in the base for excellent stability. The shade, possibly slightly earlier than the lamp, rounds out the Nouveau picture perfectly with its organic, floral trumpet shape and glorious golden hue; it’s hand-blown from 1910 or so. Here’s a small chip on the shade’s “business” rim which disappears when it’s installed in the lamp’s fitter ring. Zero consequence to the structural integrity of the glass.
The lamp has been rewired (and don’t you love that fancy cord?), and fitted with an American standard-sized socket, allowing you to employ a variety of bulb shapes (a 6-inch long tubular bulb is my recommendation). There's a swivel at the top so you can position the shade as desired.
Measurements: about 5 x 9 (the base) x 12.5 tall less
