This Josef Albers Foundation rare Modernist lithograph print " Homage to the Square " custom framed museum exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print poster is published by The Josef Albers Museum Quadrat Bottrop, printed in Germany in 2011 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition " Malerei Auf Josef Albers Papier in Amerika " ( Paintings of Josef Albers on Paper in America ). It features an artwork image from Albers famous series Homage to the Square titled " Farbstudie Zu Homage to the Square " ( Color Study to Homage to the Square ) copyright The Josef Albers Foundation / VG Bild-Kunst Bonn 2011, poster design : Ingo Offermans.
Josef Albers ( 1888 - 1976 ) was a German born artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and The United States formed the basis of Modern Art education programs of The 20th Century. Albers was a student at the Bauhaus in 1920, later being invited by the founder Walter Gropius to become an educator at the school. There his students included established artists Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky.
In the 1930's Albers emigrated to The United States where he would become the head of the new art school Black Mountain College, and later in the 1950's he became the head of the department of design at Yale University. His students in America included Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Richard Anuszkiewicz, and Eva Hesse among others.
Accomplished as a designer, photographer, typographer, printmaker, and poet, Albers is best remembered for his work as an Abstract painter and an invaluable contributor as an art theorist of color theory. He is considered to be one of the most influential visual artists of The Twentieth Century. Artworks by Albers are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The rare out of print lithograph print framed Modernist exhibition poster measures 24 1/4" W X 34 1/8" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed beveled detailed butternut squash mustard canary yellow matte eggshell finish wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " very clean condition with very light signs of handling.
