Made by Bamana women… they are decorated with geometric patterns in white on a dark brown background. Bogolanfini were traditionally worn by hunters and women. They are protective cloths, keeping away evil spirits who are meant to be confused by the meandering patterns of the close weave and unable to penetrate through the cloth. The bogolanfini originated in the 1970s in a region near the Malian capital of Bamako.
