It has only ever been dusted and wiped, never placed in the dishwasher. The colors are quite vivid, and there are no chips, nicks, dents, or scratches on the surface, other than some light wear along the rim commensurate with its age. Purchased at Gumps of San Francisco in the mid 1950s, this was my first true "splurge" as an independent career woman.
It graced my coffee table in Washington, DC for over four decades, and served as a centerpiece when dinner guests were invited for meals.
Cabbage Leaf or Bok Choi – Introduced in the third quarter of the 19th century, characterized by green cabbage leaves encircling a central medallion with Chinese symbol and usually featuring butterflies. The A.C.F. designation is reserved for pieces where the base porcelain piece was made in Japan, and then "Decorated in Hong Kong".
"Famille Rose Cabbage Leaf and Butterfly" motif, stamped :"Decorated in Hong Kong" in red, typical of that era, and the bowl measures 10.5" diameter x 4.5" tall, and its footed base measures 4.5" in diameter less
