Hand wrought iron chain with big loops used as collar for cattle
It is not just any chain, but the one used to distinguish the best animal from the herd, like a trophy
It was considered by the cattle owner as a symbol of good luck and prosperity, therefore it was ordered and prepared for the healthiest and the strongest of the cows, the animal that would walk at the head of the herd
Meant as adornment, it was nicely decorated with hand hammered and chiseled floral patterns on the loops, the links, and the curved neck plaques
It has been worn with the pierced part on top, because when hanging this way the decorations are visible
Whether or not a bell was attached to is, we can only guess
Authentic 18th century French Provincial farming implement, extremely rare to find!
All original, great patina developed over time. Very decorative.

Measurements: Approx. 18" as displayed (folded), the whole length is around 49 inches, the big hoops are 5.5" diameter
Weighs 4.5 lbs.
