This traditional East Asian style dowry chest features a lid, over four separate stacking compartments on a carrying platform. Each compartment is approximately 5.5 inches in depth. We love the black lacquered woodwork and iron plates, bolts and rings. Every inch of this piece pulls you in and makes you want to run your hand across its rugged surface. We have seen pieces like this attributed to Chinese or Korean design from the late 19TH Century and referred to as either a dowry chest or a carriage box. This piece is in good antique condition with one missing section of cable and one noted missing bolt on the same side; see photographs. The lacquered surface is scuffed and chipped in places.
