The tray, which is black has some light fading but it mostly indiscernible simply because it is going to be covered by the serving pieces. The rotating metal base under the circular tray rotates well with no hiccups. The handles on the tray are wrapped in vinyl coiled trim, of which one piece of the vinyl has cracked, due to age but is still intact (see photo 7). less

This is one of those unique patterns by Hazel Atlas that was made in the early 1950s to complement the look-and-feel of modern ”Atomic Age” entertainment. The Midnite Magic pattern is a series of glass fired on black squiggly lines on white Platonite glass. The name is the only official one given by Hazel Atlas for this pattern. That said, it has been called a variety of other names by collectors over the years including spaghetti, drizzle, spatter, string, and spaghetti string. A fabulous conversation-starting entertainment set, it consists of seven pieces-- rotating circular handled base, four curved appetizer dishes, one large center bowl for dips or hummus, etc. and one small center bowl meant for placing colorful toothpicks. It’s a perfect entertainment piece that will complement any serveware you may often use. The rotating circular handled tray is made from a Bakelite material with recessed patterns for each serving piece; the center bowl has a recessed circle on the interior where the smaller bowl rests. The handles on the tray are wrapped in vinyl coiled trim, of which one piece of the vinyl has cracked, due to age but is still intact (see photo 7). The set is in excellent condition with minimal wear visible to the Platonite pieces. The tray, which is black has some light fading but it mostly indiscernible simply because it is going to be covered by the serving pieces. The rotating metal base under the circular tray rotates well with no hiccups. It was made in the USA in the early 1950s. The set, as assembled in the photos, measures 16” wide (tray from handle-to-handle) x 3¾” high. The individual pieces measure as follows:
Circular Tray: 16” x 2” H/D
4-Curved Dishes: 9” x 3½” x 1¼” W/H; interior 8 ½” x 3 ¼” x 1” W/D/H
Large Bowl: 6” x 2” D/H; interior 5 ½” x 1½” D/H
Small Bowl: 2½” x 1” D/H
Weight for the set: 3 lbs. 7 oz.
Colors: White Platonite glass with fired on black squiggly lines; circular tray is black with off white vinyl trim on the handles
