Superb Vintage Lega Passport Masks that comes from The Democratic Republic of the Congo. This passport mask is well carved and beautifully painted. Small Lega masks are called Lukwakongo and were worn on the arm, carried in the hand, attached to a hat or grouped with similar masks .Lega art is exclusively focused on and associated with the Bwami society, and each object has a precise role and function within their ceremonies and rituals and is used only to be initiated. Passport Mask are usually carried when traveling. Africans passport masks to identify their tribes or countries of origin when traveling across the continent. Like their larger counterparts they are powerful charms, filled with spirit, with potential for good or evil. But while the full-sized masks are made for display in public ceremonies, the passport masks are not performed and are usually hidden from prying eyes. This mask are wonderful examples of passport masks and would be a great addition to your home or collection.
