These antique Staffordshire dogs are finely moulded and have beautiful detail - the chestnut red markings are painted with fine … more These antique Staffordshire dogs are finely moulded and have beautiful detail - the chestnut red markings are painted with fine brush strokes - swirling along the body, framing the face, and along the tail, emblematic of the silky coat of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The arched eyebrows and blue eyes of the mother give an aristocratic air, while the pup sits comfortably with paws crossed and tucked under the sitting mother, characteristic of the loving nature of these spaniels. The mother's golden collar and locket and the golden rim around the cobalt base have faded with age to give this piece a wonderful patina.
This piece can stand on its own or as part of a collection and pairs nicely with the slightly smaller complementary figure, also in the Ann Parke Collection, and included in our photographs.
