This Georges Braque rare vintage 1961 Mourlot fine art lithograph print custom framed Paris exhibition poster " Nature Morte a La Palette " 1942, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print exhibition poster is published by The Musee Galleria Paris, printed in France in 1961 by Mourlot in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition. Poster design by Henri Deschamps, under Braques supervision. It features an artwork image originally created by Braque in 1942 titled " Nature Morte a La Palette ". The poster was created for the " Salon Des Peintres Temoins De Leurs Temps ", which was an annual art exhibition at The Galleria Museum in Paris.
Georges Braque ( 1882 - 1963 ) was a major 20th Century French painter, collagist, printmaker, and sculptor. His most important contributions to the history of art were his alliance with Fauvism, and the role he played in the development of Cubism. Closely associated with his colleague Pablo Picasso, their respective Cubist works were indistinguishable for many years. Working closely together, thus the invention of The Cubist Style was a joint effort between Braque and Picasso. Artworks by Braque are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by the Mourlot family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithograph printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
The 1930's marked the beginning of an important and long lasting collaboration between Mourlot and The French National Museums. An example of this same exhibition poster is held in the permanent archive collection of The Galleria Museum in Paris, now known as The Palias Galliera located in the 16th Arrondissement of Paris.
The rare out print fine art lithograph print framed exhibition poster measures 21 5/8" W X 29 1/2" H X 1 1/2" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a mocha charcoal matte eggshell finish Modern box style wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in very good condition. The poster print in very good vintage condition consistent with age, use, signs of handling and wear. There is some visible moderate wear from age in the margin border areas. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference.
