This Josef Albers rare vintage 1968 Mid Century Modernist lithograph print custom framed exhibition poster " Midnight a, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Modernist exhibition poster print is published by The Victoria and Albert Museum London, printed in England in 1968 for HMSO by Moore and Matthes Ltd. Dd. 133678 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " 25 Years of Graphic Work " exhibition. It features an artwork image originally created by Albers in 1964 titled " Midnight and Noon VII ", poster design by HMSO / Peter Branfield.
Josef Albers ( 1888 - 1976 ) was a german born artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and The United States formed the basis of Modern Art education programs of The 20th Century. Albers was a student at The Bauhaus School in 1920, later being invited by the founder Walter Gropius to become an educator at the school. There his students included established artists Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
In the 1930's Albers emigrated to The United States where he would become the head of the new art school Black Mountain College, and later in the 1950's he became the head of the department of design at Yale University. His students in American included Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Richard Anuskiewicz, and Eva Hesse among others.
Accomplished as a designer, photographer, typographer, printmaker, and poet, Albers is best remembered for his work as an Abstract painter and an invaluable contributor as an art theorist of color theory. He is considered to be one of the most influential visual artists of The Twentieth Century. Artworks by Albers are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The rare out of print framed lithograph print Mid Century Modernist exhibition poster measures 10 3/8" W X 15" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with glass in a Contemporary Modern matte eggshell finish recessed beveled detailed black wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
