Statuesque and elegant birch settee manufactured in the 1950s by Maxwell Royal of Hickory, NC (though, often mis-attributed as Dunbar or Paolo Buffa).
Dramatic, deeply-carved, elongated horn extensions on the back and sinuous curved arm rests. Possessing design attributes of both American Provincial and Italian modernism, this versatile piece works with a variety of styles.
The upholstery was replaced at least 30 years ago, and shows uneven darkening from the thinning foam within. It can be used as is with the aforementioned wear, though foam replacement and reupholstery is recommended.
Birch has been newly refinished, though light wear remains (few nicks / scuffs, as shown).
