An unusual porcelain qilin (also written xilin) figurine caparisoned like a horse. The qilin is an auspicious and benevolent mythological creature in Chinese lore that is somewhat dragon-like with features such as hooves, a horn and a mane. This sancai figure has two incense holder piercings in the back, and it stands on a pierced plinth block.
