This stunning lucite and chrome executive desk chair designed by Vladimir Kagan is one of a kind as it was custom made for the home of Elaine and Alexandre Rosenberg in April 1974.
Beautifully executed combining lucite, leather and chrome this chair features a swivel, recline, as well as tilt adjustment mechanisms. Originally the seat was in a red leather but was newly reupholstered in an Yves Klein royal blue finest napa leather maintaining its pop of color as originally designed by Kagan. The patinated steel base has new casters, which will ensure perfect movement of the chair while the lucite is the original one in perfect vintage condition.
Considered one of the most prolific designers of the twentieth century, Vladimir Kagan opened his first shop in New York City in 1948 creating flowing, biomorphic designs and instantly attracting many high-profile clients, including Marilyn Monroe, Gary Cooper, Andy Warhol as well as Art dealer Alexander and Elaine Rosenberg. Featured in permanent collections of major museums like the Victoria & Albert Museum in London , the Vitra Design Museum in Germany or the Museum of Modern Art in NYC.
Art Dealer Alexander Rosenberg and his wife, philanthropist Elaine were always engaged in work with museums, serving as fellow of the Morgan Library and benefactors to the Museum of Modern Art, as well as to the Cloisters at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Amassing one of the largest collection of illuminated manuscripts and more than 200 Renaissance printed books over their life spam, the couple was also well known for their pursuit of the restitution of around 400 works of art pieces that were confiscated by Nazis from her late husband’s father, the prominent French art dealer Paul Rosenberg. In 2007, Elaine donated the Paul Rosenberg Archives to MoMA.
