These artisanal objects, often used as cocktail party ashtrays or trinket dishes were popularized by the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and the craft studios in California of the era.

The artisan used hints of copper, rust red, black, gold, and a hint of white to create an abstract medallion or starburst and a dull gold rim below the glaze. The bottom is black glazed enamel. It bears no visible signature or date. less
