Giulia Mangani porcelain lamp in the chinoiserie style, hand-painted & gilt with lychee and original lamp shade, 1950`s ca, Italian.
This lamp has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. It is newly rewired, earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to use. It has the following new components: brass lamp holders, golden silk cable, white cord switch and white plug. Lightbulb included. This lamp could be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use this lamp in other countries with light bulbs suitable to local electricity.
This large sculptural lamp by Mangani Porcelain is a playful Mid-Century take on oriental vases. The bulbous shape has hand painted gilt lychee rising from the base; it is stylised yet composed with realism. Lychee are an auspicious fruit according to Feng Shui principles. The red symbolises happiness and the fruit is a mythological symbol of romance, beauty & good luck.
The unique combination of Modernism & Naturalism hand-painted with gilt on porcelain make this lamp elegant & decorative. It would suit a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Traditional or Contemporary.
The main attraction here is the huge Mangani Porcelain base; matched to 1950`s back catalogues by the company. The last photo, courtesy Giulia Mangani Museo, shows the same pattern on vases. In this lamp the vase sits on a gilt circular stepped plate. This is on an octagonal plinth base composed of high polished black acrylic on wood. Underneath there is new felt padding for protection.
Rising from the vase is a gold-tone central column. This column is telescopic with a decorative bolt allowing the shade to be lifted up & down. The height of the lamp as measured to the top finial is 65 cm at its lowest and 80 cm at its maximum. The lamp is photographed here at a height of 70 cm. Looking at the column in detail it has a golden disc with two new brass lamp holders inside the original brass covers facing upwards. At the top the column is finished with a sphere finial.
This lamp has the original vintage lamp shade. It is an octagonal pagoda form with ivory fabric, white lining and top brass ring. The shade is fitted to the main column by the finial and therefore is removeable.
This lamp takes 2 standard large screw light bulbs E27 up to 40 Watts each. Presently fitted and photographed with clear Candle bulbs of 28 Watts. These are included in this price.
This lamp is all in very good condition. The porcelain is in very good condition with no cracks or chips. The gilt surfaces are in good condition with minor rubbing & minor marks in line with age. The black acrylic base is in very good condition. The lampshade is in very good vintage condition with no cuts or stains.
