He had various and irregular artistic training and travelled in Europe between 1928 and 1934. He breifly attended the Sorbonne to study literature before moving onto the Art Academy of Montparnasse, where he first encountered Surrealism. Ubac worked mostly on photography between 1934 and 1942, embraced Surrealism in Paris and took photos for the magazine Minotaure.

This lithograph comes from the long running French Art Magazine "Derriere le Miroir" published from 1946 until 1982 (253 issues). Published and edited by Aime Maeght, the French art dealer featured artists exhibited in his gallery, including: Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Henri Matisse, and Vassily Kandinsky. less
