- This is just a great original piece. I saw this across the room of the antique store I walked into … more This is just a great original piece. I saw this across the room of the antique store I walked into recently and made a bee line right to it to see what exactly it was. I thought it was incredibly fascinating and really gave off this great pop art feel. I flipped it over and saw that it was signed Kent Conklin. I have tried to do research and figure out anything I could about the artist, but there is not much out there. I did find one art website that pointed to an old website for the artist but it was no longer out there. The summary had the artist saying that is his works were Fine Art with a decorative feel. That very much makes sense with the Pop Art vibe these give off. This is one of three I am offering this week. If you like one, you will like the 3 of them together even more. All hand crafted ceramics and and hand painted, this is for the watermelon. The fruit itself measures about 7 inches by 6 inches. The "throne" itself measures about 6 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches and stands about 3 inches to the top of each leg finial. Inside the base is this wonderful maroon silk or satin "pillow" that allows the fruit to sit in any angle you want it to. I really allows you to change the appearance of the piece whether you sit it the long way, the short way or on an angle. Standing upright the whole thing stands about 9 inches tall. The base has one small chip to it but otherwise the piece is in excellent as created condition. Really just a very cool piece of contemporary Pop Art.
